How the fee is figured
Annual fee by vehicle weight class. Class IV, 6,000 lbs or more, pays $550.00 plus $75.00 per 1,000 lbs over 10,000.1
Title fee
Vehicle title $30.00. Lien recordation $20.00 per lien. Excise tax by weight and city MPG, applied to fair market value.2
Plate fee
Tag transfer $12.00. Registration card $30.00 per year.1
Electric vehicle fee
Class V battery electric vehicles $40.00 from March 30, 2026, for a new one under 5,000 lbs, first two years only.1

The sources we read do not say: local or county fees, renewal period.

Before March 30, 2026 Class I was $72.00 and Class III $250.00. Hybrids do not qualify for the $40.00 rate.
